10. Knowsley Schools' FA
KNOWSLEY SCHOOLS' FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION
Knowsley Schools' Football Association is proud of the many former players who have graced the game of football over the years not just because of their skill but because they have all been true ambassadors for the game and outstanding role models for young players everywhere.
For such a small association of just six Secondary Schools to nurture the captains of TWO European Championship winning clubs is a remarkable achievement and in all probability a unique world record of which we are justifiably proud - and they were both from the same school - Brookfield in Kirkby!
Phil Thompson captained Liverpool to European Cup Winners glory in 1981
Dennis Mortimer repeated the feat as captain of Aston Villa just a year later in 1982!
Not only were they from the same district association but they were both from the same school, Brookfield High School - now called Kirkby High School. Surely a unique world record?
There have been many more professional football players who started their playing careers with Knowsley schoolboys and they include:
Leighton Baines, Tony Hibbert, Ricky Lambert, Craig Noone, Alan Stubbs, Peter Reid, Ryan Taylor, Aaron Cresswell, Steven Jennings, Georgie Donnelly, Laurence Wilson, Tony Kelly, John Coleman, Gary Brabin, Craig Hignett, Cole Stockton, Lee Trundle, Tommy Caton the list goes on
Knowsley Schools' Football Association have teams at Under 13, Under 14 and Under 15.
